Harvest Festival is an annual tradition at Encinal for 4th and 5th graders. This year, the Encinal Garden will be turned into Thomas Jefferson's Colonial Garden for a day. Students get to learn more about the "three sister" crops, sample food the Colonials ate, play games and make crafts from that period, and even make their own food.
We need many parent volunteers to make this fun day possible for all 4th and 5th graders! Click here to volunteer on the day of the event (Fri, Oct 3rd)
Click here to donate needed items or prepare food such as Johnny Cakes with Apple Butter, Corn & Bean Succotash, and Hob Nob Cookies.
If you have any questions, please email Emily Robinson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On October 7-10 (Parent-Teacher Conferences) and December 19, all Encinal students will be dismissed at 11:20 am.
The SamTrans buses and Menlo Park Assist Shuttle will not run in the afternoon on these days. If your child(ren) ride these buses, plan for other transportation arrangements.
All other bus services (District and Sequoia Tinsley) will run the usual routes, beginning at 11:20 am. See the school website for modified early dismissal day routes.

A Few More Volunteers Needed
Thanks to everyone who has already volunteered to help. We are looking to fill a few more slots when the Fair is open and to help with breaking down the fair on Friday 10/10 from 3:30-5pm. Book Fair duties include helping students/families find books, run the register, and keep things organized & tidy.

Thurs, Oct 9th - 5:30-8pm, Large Multi
Join us for a fun family event at Encinal on Thurs Oct 9th from 5:30-8pm. Visit Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus, watch episodes of this family favorite show in the Large Multi, and enjoy popcorn with friends. Board games will be available for older kids to play, too.
Parents can shop at the Book Fair in the Small Multi while students are watching the movie and playing games.
On Monday, a packet will be coming home in your child's green folder. The packet will include an order form, a price list, and a product brochure, as well as your child's art work. To participate, you need only to complete the entire order form, and send it back to school along with your child's artwork and a cash or check payment. All checks need to be made to the Encinal PTO, and all orders must be turned in by the October 13 deadline.
To see what kinds of products are available, click here. For more information, email your class HRP.
Please cut out and save the box tops located on many of your food and household products. Our PTO receives 10 cents for each label and last year we raised over $800! The collection box is located in the main office window labeled "Box Tops." Our collection deadline is the end of October, so please bring in those box tops and we'll count them!
"What Parents Need to Know About the Common Core and More"
Hillview Middle School
This conference will give you an insider's view on important developments relating to your children's education. This year, we'll be covering the sweeping changes to the math curriculum lead by the Common Core, as well as new student assessments and report cards. There will also be workshops, taught by district teachers and staff, that will give you first-hand knowledge about what happens in the classroom, as well as tips and tricks for helping your student succeed in school. Free childcare will be available for children ages 2.5 through Middle School (special program for Middle School students to earn Block H points) to allow as many parents as possible to attend, but advance registration is required in order to take advantage of this option.
- Register early to get your first choice of workshops and to reserve a childcare spot.
- Conference Details are on the MPCSD ParentEd Page
- Online Registration for Parents & Childcare - register by Monday, October 6.
Thursday, October 2, 6:30-8 pm, Multi
Our kids are "Digital Natives" - they have grown up in a world of online access and ever changing media devices. Do you wonder how to teach your child responsibility and ethics online, how to ensure they are aware of their actions, and how to best parent them in the digital age?
Recommended for anyone interested in an overview of the digital landscape and learning about thoughtful ways to navigate media with your children. You will come away with strategies that support both you and your child. This is an event you will not want to miss!
Friday, October 3, 4-8:30 pm, Arrillaga Recreation Center
This free event (for kids and their parents) will be held in the Sequoia Room; pizza and water will be provided for dinner. Sponsored by Kuk Sool Won™ of Menlo Park Martial Arts and Character Development Academy. Register here.
