MPCSD RECEIVES CHARTER PETITION FROM MENLO MANDARIN IMMERSION CHARTER SCHOOL
On September 12 our District received its first Charter School petition from the parents of the Menlo Mandarin Immersion Charter School. Click here to see the entire Charter petition including petition signatures.

We encourage parents and community members to attend the following public meetings:

  • Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Encinal Elementary School, Multi-Use Room, 195 Encinal Ave., Atherton​
  • Study Session on Monday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Encinal Elementary School, Multi-Use Room, 195 Encinal Ave., Atherton​
  • Final Decision on Wednesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Encinal Elementary School, Multi-Use Room, 195 Encinal Ave., Atherton​

Reminder
Carpool Reminder
Please arrive to pick up NO EARLIER than 10 minutes before your child’s dismissal bell.  By doing so, families designated to the 2:30 dismissal (1:20 on Thursday) do not get stuck behind 3:00 dismissal cars (1:40 on Thursday) that arrive too early.  Also, we reduce the back up of cars on Encinal caused by an abundance of cars that fill up the Encinal driveway.

Makeup Photo Day is Tuesday, October 21st: To participate in makeup photos you must have pre-registered with iclicksmiles. Same day signups are not available.
 
Box Tops
TURN IN YOUR BOX TOPS
The deadline for turning in box tops is Friday, October 24th. Please remember to bring them into the office or send them to school in your child's green folder and we'll count them for you. Our PTO receives 10 cents for each label and last year we raised over $800!

Please remember to continue to collect box tops for our spring collection!

  Parent Education
Thank you to all the parents who came in the MPCSD ParentEd Conference: "What Parents Need to Know About the Common Core and More" last Sunday, October 12 at Hillview Middle School! It was a great forum for learning and discussion and we appreciate your participation!
 
We want to recognize and give a huge THANK YOU to the Newton Center and Applebee Preschool for providing free childcare that was fun, safe, and engaging!!! Thank you also to the many MPCSD staff, teacher presenters and parent volunteers for organizing this event.
 
Missed the conference?  Good news . . . thanks to an amazing team of Hillview students, we were able to record each session of the ParentEd Conference.  We are working on getting the recording put on the website so that parents can watch any sessions that they missed. Sleepy Students: The Adolescent Circadian Shift
Devin Prouty, Ph.D., Researcher/Expert
Monday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Hillview Middle School PAC

Join local researcher Devin Prouty, Ph.D. as he discusses practical strategies for dealing with adolescent sleep changes and how to help your whole family get enough sleep. He also will detail the biological mechanisms that affect sleep, biological changes that affect adolescent sleep patterns, the importance of sleep to overall health and academic achievement, and the problems that are associated with insufficient sleep. Dr. Prouty is a clinical psychologist (www.granitepsychology.com) who also studies adolescent brain development through NCANDA, the National Consortium on Alcohol and Neurodevelopment in Adolescence (www.ncanda.org).

Parenting in the Age of Social Media

Our kids are "Digital Natives" - they have grown up in a world of online access and ever changing media devices. Do you wonder how to teach your child responsibility and ethics online, how to ensure they are aware of their actions, and how to best parent them in the digital age?
 
Recommended for anyone interested in an overview of the digital landscape and learning about thoughtful ways to navigate media with your children. You will come away with strategies that support both you and your child. This is an event you will not want to miss!
 
Please note that this is a parents-only event. Encinal Fifth grade students have already participated in classroom workshops focused on "Safety and Compassion in the Digital Age," also conducted by My Digital TAT2.
