  • We have one Vice-President this year, but she would love to have a co-VP. If you're interested, please contact Jill.

Counselor's Corner
Social & Emotional Learning Update: Talk It Out
Our counselor, Ms. Bloom, is sharing a tried and true conflict resolution process - "Talk It Out" - with every 1st - 5th grade class during October and November.

Students are taught to make their problems smaller by using three steps:
1. Eye Contact
2. I-statements
3. Pick a Problem Solving tool
á
Click to see the handouts that she uses to teach this to 1st-3rd graders and 4th-5th graders.á You'll see this info displayed around campus, in classrooms, and on the playground.á The goal is to empower students to "Talk It Out" on their own, but if the problem is too big or complicated, they are encouraged to seek an adult at school to help them put the process into action.
á
For Kinders, Ms. Bloom will also teach an age appropriate lesson on manners and using kind words to encourage our youngest students to practice Caring for Others.
á
Ask your students to teach the "Talk It Out" process to you to use at home!

MPAEF Presents: "Apply a Powerful
Design-Thinking Mindset to Your Everyday"

Wednesday, November 5, 6:30-8 pm
Hillview Performing Arts Center

A design-thinking mindset has the powerful potential to change many aspects of our personal, family and professional lives, as well as the personal, emotional and academic lives of our children. In fact, our kids have already been discovering its positive impact in classroom and school activities.

Since 2012, our school district has been collaborating with design-thinking influencers and innovation-focused leaders. And now the MPAEF has brought together these individuals to engage district parents and the greater Menlo Park-Atherton community in a panel discussion about how this innovations-based, problem-solving practice is applicable and purposeful to all of us.

Come learn these key pillars of design thinking as our children experience them in their classrooms. Discover how they extend and apply to areas of our every day: á
