Relay for Life Fundraiser/Movie Night
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Friday, April 10, 6:30-8:30 pm, Encinal Multi

Last year, an Encinal 5th grader was diagnosed with lymphoma. Her class joined Relay for Life to support her, and raised over $4000! She is now a 6th grader at Hillview; she is doing remarkably well and loves school, and it is now a tradition that each year, a new cohort of Ms. Meister's students will do Relay for Life.

Ms. Meister's class is showing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as this year's fundraiser for Relay for Life. Help us raise money for our team of 5th and 6th graders, The Shining Diamond Eagle Cancer Killers! Enjoy a great movie while making a donation that will support cancer research and support those with cancer.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
$5/person, payable at door
Open to grades 3-5

Show some Encinal Pride by joining the Spirit Wear Team!
The Encinal Spirit Wear committee is looking for one (or more) volunteers to learn the ins and outs of spirit wear this Spring and then chair the committee for the 2015-2016 school year.  The spirit wear committee is responsible for designing and selling Encinal gear as a fundraiser for the PTO.  It is also a great way to help students show their school pride.  Time commitment is about an hour a week plus attending school events and a few extra hours during the summer to prep for the upcoming school year.  For more information or to express interest, please email SpiritWear@encinalschool.com
Call for Service Award Nominations -
Tell Us About an Exceptional Volunteer!
Every year our District is fortunate to have parents, teachers, staff and community volunteers give generously of their time, skills and creativity to our schools. Many programs would not exist if it was not for this formidable group of volunteers, "the Pillars of our Community." Honorary Service Awards (HSAs) as well as the School Service Awards (SSAs) recognize those individuals who have contributed in an extraordinary way to our District.

Please take a moment to nominate someone you know who goes above and beyond to make a difference in our schools. To nominate an individual, please complete an online nomination form by Friday, April 3

K-5 Math Adoption News
After an extensive math pilot process and review involving 34 teachers and 2 publishers and spanning all grade levels (including multi-age classes and Spanish Immersion), the Math Committee voted unanimously to propose adopting Math Expressions by publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as the new MPCSD Common Core Curriculum for Grades K-5. There is a strong articulation between Math Expressions Common Core and Big Ideas Math (the recently adopted curriculum at Hillview Grades 6-8); this will create a seamless K-8 experience allowing teachers and students to easily transition from the world of elementary school math to middle school math.

The committee gave a presentation on Math Expressions at the March 10 Board meeting, and provided Board members with supplemental curricular material. The decision to adopt Math Expressions will go to the Board for action on April 14, 2015.

K-5 Math Expressions materials are on display in the small conference room at the District Office for public review until April 14. To preview this material on line:
