NEW Encinal Bell Schedule, 2015-2016
Summer is here! It's time to plan for 2015-2016.

Both Laurel and Encinal School have revised their bell schedule for the 15/16 school year. Among other things, this new bell schedule will allow K-3 students (a change from K-2 only this year) to have access to the district neighborhood school bus route, both before and after school. Information on how to sign up for this bus service will be available soon on the District transportation website.

A hard copy of the new schedule was sent home in your child's June 10 report card.

After School Sports Update
4th/5th grade Boys Volleyball
Next year we will be starting a 4th/5th grade Boys Volleyball program, in addition to our 4th/5th grade Girls Volleyball program. The plan is for Boys to have their games on Wednesday afternoons and Girls games on Thursday afternoons. Sign ups will begin in late August. More information to come in the Back to School newsletter in August.

New Coordinator Needed for Next Year
If you are an organized, sport-minded person looking to get involved, we are seeking to train a volunteer to take over the after school sports program! 2015-2016 school year would be a training year with past coordinators in preparation to take over in 2016-2017. Contact Jen Nelson if you are interested.

Needed: Newsletter Editors and Cultural Arts Day Chairs
Newsletter
Do you love knowing everything that's going on at school? Do you need advance updates on events in order to get them into your calendar? Do you like making copy look pretty? If so, newsletter editor is the job for you! This job takes a few hours/week, and the more editors we get, the lower the time commitment. It can be done entirely on your own schedule. Most importantly, if we don't get volunteers, we won't be able to publish a weekly newsletter.
If you're interested, email Emily for more details and a super-fun (really!) training session.

Cultural Arts Day
We are looking for 1-3 co-chairs to help plan and organize volunteers for Cultural Arts Day. This is an entire day dedicated to fun activities, lessons, and performances highlighting the culture of one area of the world. Cultural Arts Day includes guest speakers, music and dancing, food tasting, a cultural museum, crafts, and more. The date and country will be selected by the Chairs. Kids love this program and we rely on parent volunteers to organize it!!
If you're interested, please email Jill.
Let's Do Lunch
Did you know that every Encinal fifth graders served hot lunch this year? In teams of six, the students each sacrificed one week of recess to ensure that the hot lunch program could happen.
á
This student service program will continue next year, and we are looking for adult volunteers to supervise our students. Join us bi-monthly, weekly, or as a sub. It's an especially great gig for fifth-grade parents! You will be amazed by what the students can do and the pride they take in their work.
Interested? Email hotlunch@encinalschool.com
Library News
Please remember to search out and return all library books! Click here for Encinal librarian Ms. Healy's June newsletter. The letter includes suggestions for summer reading, information on the library program, and a list of the California Young Reader Medal award winners.
Hillview Jazz Program
Incoming 6th Grade Families!á If you are interested in playing Jazz at Hillview next year, please take a minute to download the cover letter and check out your instrument part (bass cleff, "C", "Eb", or "Bb" Instruments)! This isn't just for those in the strings or band program;á if you play guitar, keyboards, bass, drum set and/or sing, YOU are also welcome to join!á Please download the Cover Letter and the parts that fit your instrument (you can figure this our by reading the Cover Letter).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email Richard Vaughan.

Camp Hillview and Hillview's Newsletter
If you'll have a 6th grader at Hillview next year, Camp Hillview is the perfect way for you to see first-hand how fun and exciting the kickoff to a new school year will be for your child! You can help set up and serve lunch to the 6th grade class and their 8th grade WEB leaders on Monday, August 24 (10:30am-12:30pm), or you can chaperone the pool party on Friday, August 28 (11:30am-2:30pm).
á
And if would like to be in the know about all the events happening on campus, the Hillview PTO is looking for a volunteer to be Co-Editor of the school newsletter.

You will work with an experienced Editor and seasoned Communications Chair. You won't need to attend meetings or write copy; instead, you will work on your own schedule to compile and edit content provided by community members, the PTO, and Hillview staff. Best of all, you'll divide the job with your Co-Editor, so you'll essentially have half the year off!
Please email Kate Kennedy or Michelle Box if you're interested in any of these opportunities!
